A firm, supportive mattress is great for SLEEPING. We bought a Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattress and Box Spring Set about a year ago. So far this Mattress has held up very very well. After one year of use the mattress is as good as new. The mattress is as firm and supportive as the day we bought it (So states the young lady we bought if for). I just had my husband jump up and down on the bed and he states the mattress is still very firm!
We bought this mattress for our youngest daughter. We bought her the full mattress set. Her old bed was a twin size mattress and box spring set. We decided to get a larger bed when her other mattress gave out in strength and gave out to her in size.
We went to a furniture store and the salesman recommended the mattress at his store and it was a brand other than Serta. We looked at the price tag and it was a little out of our price range. We had heard of the Serta brand and decided to try and find it. Luck was with us when we looked at our local warehouse store. Wrapped in a package was the Serta Perfect Sleeper Full Size Box Spring and Mattress Set. We bought the set on the "Serta" reputation. At the store it felt fine but we really wouldn't know until we got home. The price was very good. Out the door the price for the full set was under $ 250.00.

Members of the National Home Furnishings Association will once again be raising money for City of Hope, a cancer research and treatment center in California, during this year’s Midwest Dinner Cruise, which will be held on Aug. 18 in Chicago.
Last year, about 300 members of the National Home Furnishings Association attended the cruise and raised about $200,000 million for the organization.
“The Midwest Dinner Cruise is quickly becoming a must-attend event among industry members,” said Ted Wecker, Sea Products/Skyline Furniture. “It’s a memorable evening with impeccable views of Chicago and a great opportunity to network with fellow industry members or treat employees and customers to a great evening.”
This year, the cruise will honor the Darvin Family, of Darvin Furniture. Members of the furniture buying group Furniture First as well as representatives from furniture manufacturers such as aspenhome, Serta Mattress Company, Simmons Bedding Company, Thomasville and Leggett and Platt have already pledged their support to this year’s cruise.
Strobel, a manufacturer of organic mattresses known for its vocal opposition to the use of chemical fire retardant chemicals used in bedding, announced that Sears has chosen Strobel's new Organic Program.
Mark Strobel, president of Strobel, noted that, "About 80 Strobel Organic items are featured on the www.sears.com website. In the “For The Home” department mattress pages, Strobel is now listed with other top "S" brands on Sears.com. On the left side of the page you will see Sealy, Sears-O-Pedic, Serta, Simmons, Spring Air, Stearns & Foster, and now Strobel Organic. Sears now carries basically Strobel’s entire line of Organic Supple-Pedic Lever-Bed mattresses, Strobel-Fold Foundations, Organic Crib Mattresses, Organic Waterbeds, and Organic Pillows."
All the Sears’ Strobel items can ship by UPS. Strobel mattresses use a layer system that has many advantages. One is the individual layers can ship in separate cartons allowing UPS shipping. The government mandated flame retardant chemical based fire barrier is zippered and removable allowing it to also be shipped separately by UPS, and needs to be installed over the layer system to comply with government regulations. A number of analysts say mattress maker Sealy Corp. is in for one of its worst years ever. But the company hopes at least its customers can find something to laugh about.
In something of a departure for mattress makers, Sealy is trying its hand at humor in its latest commercials. Sealy's "Better Six" print and television ads present snoozing, decadent characters -- a trust-fund baby, for example, or the fictional King Augustus Ferdinand IV of Krustania -- who have the opportunity to sleep at length; because normal people are lucky to get six hours of sleep, the ads say, the tagline encourages consumers to "get a better six."
The company needs something to help awaken sales. Much of the momentum in the industry these days is in the specialty-mattress segment, which features technologies such as memory foam and latex inside the mattress instead of coil springs. And that is not where the leading players -- Sealy, Simmons Co. and Serta Inc. -- do most of their business.
While specialty mattress makers Tempur-Pedic International Inc. and Select Comfort Corp. had just 17% of the mattress market last year, that figure was up about 23% from 2006, according to the furniture publication Furniture Today. By contrast, Sealy, which mostly sells traditional mattresses (the ones with spring coils inside) had a 2007 growth rate of just 2.9%.

The specialty (non-innerspring) segment of the bedding market is growing rapidly with increasing demand of specialty mattresses. Latex is in great demand. Larger beds and advanced technologies (and materials) have driven the average unit selling prices. The greater disposable income of the baby boomers and larger homes with more bedrooms are key factors contributing to the
growth of the market.
The industry is fairly concentrated at the manufacturer level but highly fragmented at the retailer level. Sealy, Simmons, and Serta lead the market while specialty mattress manufacturers Tempur-Pedic and Select Comfort have increased their market share in the last few years. The retail market is dominated by bedding specialists, followed by furniture stores. New flammability standards to avoid frequent mattress fires have forced manufacturers to look beyond comfort and luxury when designing their mattresses.

Not everyone realizes that mattresses are full of materials that can be recycled or reused. Last year, more than 12,500 old mattresses exchanged by customers at Dormez-vous, the Quebec arm of specialty bedding retailer Sleep Country Canada, were stored at its warehouse and categorized as reusable or recyclable instead of being sent to landfills.
"We go through the old mattresses that we retrieve from customers when they buy new ones to determine which are in good condition and can be given away to families in need," explained Lynn Martel, vice-president of Dormez-vous. Most are too worn to be reused, she said, and are sent to a recycling depot to be broken down into components and recycled.
As well, for the second year Dormez-vous is hosting a program to help Quebec children's hospitals. Until July 22, visitors to any of the retailer's locations in the province can "adopt" a plush Serta Counting Sheep toy for a minimum contribution of $10. Net proceeds will go to support Opération Enfant Soleil through the Children's Miracle Network - and in turn provide essential resources to the Montreal Children's Hospital, Ste. Justine's Children's Hospital and the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec.

Swimming against the tide, Five Star Mattress said it is cutting prices on every bed in its line.
The maker of promotional and mid-priced bedding said the price cuts will range as high as 32% and will trim some wholesale prices by hundreds of dollars.
President Donna Zett said the producer, which has a manufacturing supply agreement with Serta, is moving aggressively to grab business in what has been a prolonged industry slump.
“This is not a temporary rollback, but new, more competitive pricing that will rock the industry, providing higher margins for dealers than was ever thought possible,” she said. “We are making a big push to gain additional business. We are the only producer in the industry that is lowering prices.”
Zett said other bedding producers are raising prices by 8% to 15%, responding to rising costs of raw materials. Asked how Five Star can move in the opposite direction, she responded: “We’ve got six months’ of experience under our belt. We know where the balance of our mix is. We can target the right prices at the popular price points.”
